I offer personalised fishing tuition throughout the year with a simple aim of making each lesson enjoyable, relaxed and informative.
My tailored lessons are designed to help you fish confidently and successfully whether you are a beginner or already have some fly fishing experience.

I believe that learning should be fun and engaging. I take a hands-on approach to teaching, with plenty of opportunities for practice and feedback.
Fly fishing can seem daunting if you are just starting out and even frustrating when you struggle with more advanced techniques. I like to think that I have developed a way of teaching to help you overcome these challenges by developing your skills enough to make fly fishing a relaxing and engaging sport.
Typically all my tuition is offered on a one-to-one basis (children under-16 must be accompanied by an adult). Prior to any lesson I will have a chat with you and then structure each session according to your experience and any specific requirements. We will learn at your pace, and under no pressure. I will guide you through every step and support you afterwards as well.
If you are a beginner or a novice, I will cover all the basics including tackle explanation, tackle selection, fly casting, fly selection, how to find the trout on any given stillwater, reservoir, or river, and also how to play and land the fish.
Please do read the testimonials for some of my customer feedback.
The majority of my Fly Fishing lessons take place at three outstanding fishery locations in the north of England.

The fishing lake is a stream-fed water near Brampton, 11 miles east of Carlisle. A truly stunning location with some large fish. Glamping pods on-site.

A large reservoir surrounded by forest in wild location. This is a popular boat fishery, 17 miles west of Durham.

Located 5 miles east of Wooler in north Northumberland against the picturesque backdrop of the Cheviot Hills, this fishery offers bank style fishing from 3 lakes.
You can find the locations of the fisheries here.
The most common types of fly fishing lessons I teach are outlined below. The content of a lesson is not an exact science. Everyone has different requirements and circumstances, so I’m more than happy to tailor things to your needs. You decide!

| Half Day | Full Day |
|---|---|
| £160 | £240 |
Half and full day lessons are available throughout the year at a mutually agreeable date and time. Please book weekends well in advance.
The half day lesson is the most popular lesson and allows enough time to cover most of what you need to know to get started, without being too time consuming – the ‘Goldilocks Porridge’ of durations!
The full day lesson is the best value and can be as much time as you want subject to the fishery rules and available daylight. You decide when we start and finish! Most anglers are happy with 8-10 hours.
Shorter session lessons at fixed times are available on selected dates at the weekends and during school holidays. These lessons are targeted at kids who are more suited to shorter durations, and are also ideal for adults who may want to refine or focus on a specific technique.
Please like or follow my Facebook page to keep updated on the dates of the shorter session lessons (or contact me for availability).

I specialise in teaching absolute beginners from scratch and existing anglers who may want to advance their skills (and to catch more fish!).
No – I can supply any necessary tackle required for a lesson.
You will however need to bring along protective glasses and a hat or cap – both to protect you from flying hooks. These are essential.
Also you should wear sensible clothing based on the weather forecast. Wellies are generally best, but walking boots or even trainers might do on some days. Sun cream is advisable too.
Dressing appropriately for fly fishing lessons is essential. It is recommended to wear comfortable, moisture-wicking clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Consider layered clothing to adjust to changing weather conditions.
Wearing a hat or cap, sunglasses or some form of protective glasses, is essential.
You should also apply suncream for sun protection.

The best way to contact me is to either email at stuart@cadencefishing.co.uk or complete and submit the form on the Contact Us page. I will always try to respond with 24 hours.
Let me know where and when you would like a fishing lesson and for what duration.
Please include your name and the best contact details in the email/message, but do not include any personal information such as any payment card details.
Payment is by bank transfer. I will provide you with my bank details when I confirm your booking.
For full and half day sessions, 50% payment is required at the time of booking and the remaining 50% on the day. The final payment can either be by cash or by bank transfer using your mobile banking app.
For shorter sessions, full payment is required at the time of booking.
For each additional person there is a 35% charge on the lesson price.
If the additional person is a non-fishing adult accompanying a child, there is no charge.
Unfortunately, unknowns such as weather or illness mean this can happen from time to time. The general guidance is that I will contact you to cancel and rearrange a lesson in the case of a forecasted Met Office named storm or during excess wind, snow, ice or heat weather conditions.
Cancellation due to weather is solely at my discretion and cannot include slightly unpleasant conditions. Fishing happens in all weathers and only conditions deemed unsafe will result in postponement.
Any lessons cancelled due to bad weather will be re-arranged to a mutually agreeable date without refunds. Exceptions include people on holiday in the area who cannot rearrange.
In the event you need to cancel, I always aim to be as fair as possible and will re-arrange where reasonably possible. The following system makes it as fair as possible for both of us as I would lose income from booked days that cancel close to the date of lesson:
Fly fishing lesson gift vouchers are the perfect purchase for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, retirement, or just to say ‘Thank You!’ to that special person.
My gift vouchers are not just for beginners. If the person you want to buy a voucher for is already an experienced angler then I can perhaps show them a new fishery and act as their guide for the day, tackling up and of course, netting their fish!
A gift voucher is personalised with your own special message and emailed to you as a PDF to print or email. A voucher can be for any amount you want with a minimum of £50 and is valid for one year. The balance will have to be made up prior to booking if the voucher is less than the lesson cost.
Just contact me letting me know how much the gift voucher is for, the recipient’s name and whether you want the price shown on it or not, plus any special message.
